Basketball ACT Canberra ▸ ACT ▸ Australia Full Time 2 Jan 2026 Description The Technical Officials Association Coordinator plays a key leadership and administrative role in supporting the development, engagement, and coordination of basketball technical officials within the Competition and Association. This position ensures the smooth operation of officiating activities, promotes communication between officials and Basketball ACT, and contributes to the ongoing growth, recognition, and professionalism of the officiating community. Key Responsibilities Oversee administration and rostering of Technical Officials for all competitions with the Basketball ACT events and competition calendar. Communicate with officials to fill vacant spots, find replacements and respond to general enquiries from a technical officials perspective in relation to rosters. Ensure all databases, compliance requirements and Basketball ACT processes/procedures are kept up to date with current practices and information. Ensure the RefBook database is maintained for all technical officials. Provide guidance and support to members regarding education, development, and expectations within the Association competitions. Work with Basketball ACT’s Technical Officials Pathway Coordinator to align development opportunities with the national officiating framework. Coordinate and promote education courses and assist in the coordination of training sessions and workshops for Technical Officials as per the Basketball Australia Technical Officials framework. Coordinate, facilitate and encourage mentorship and peer learning opportunities for the Referee Supervisors within the Association competition frameworks. Ensure consistent and transparent communication across all levels of officiating, including updates, rule changes and policy information to members. Support recruitment initiatives to attract new referees and technical officials, and retain and engage current technical officials through recognition and awards programmes. Coordinate with competition administrators to ensure accurate game appointments, schedule updates, and system integrity within Refbook. Monitor attendance and match completion to ensure correct recording of officiating activity. Coordinate payment processing for Technical Officials via Refbook by: Collating and verifying RefBook data for payment each round or event cycle. Ensuring officials’ payment details are current and compliant with financial policies. Preparing payment summaries and submitting approved batches to finance for processing. Responding to official queries regarding payments, discrepancies or missed entries in a timely and professional manner. Contribute to building and managing a high performing culture across the Organisation. Support team cohesion, providing assistance to Basketball ACT staff. Apply conflict resolution strategies to de‑escalate tensions and facilitate respectful dialogue. Promote a culture of respect, inclusion and sportsmanship by educating participants and technical officials. Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for technical officials, players, coaches, team managers and parents. Build collaborative partnerships between Basketball ACT Member Clubs, Parents, Volunteers and other stakeholders. The Candidate Must Have Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) Check/Card – compulsory. Senior First Aid certificate or Willingness to obtain – compulsory. Current Basketball Referee / Score Bench / Statistician Accreditation (or willingness to obtain) – compulsory. Selection Criteria Demonstrated experience in Technical Officials development and program delivery within a basketball or similar sporting environment. Strong understanding of Technical Official development needs across the community. Proven ability to lead and collaborate with referees, statisticians, score bench, coaches, athletes and parents. Knowledge of national and state basketball frameworks, policies and development models. Ability to perform under pressure and manage diverse stakeholders. Professional, motivated, competent and trustworthy. Highly organised with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines. Energetic and positive team member. Highly collaborative with effective communication skills. Good interpersonal skills to develop and maintain partnerships and client relationships. Relevant work experience in an associated field or community sporting organisation will be highly desirable.
