10d ago , from Federal Court of Australia Total package $109,124 – $122,227 per annum, including 15.4% superannuation (Base salary $94,563 – $105,910 plus 15.4% superannuation) Non-ongoing, Full-time – initial 12 months with possible extension Dandenong, Melbourne, Sydney and Wollongong Position overview Under the Courts’ case management pathway, SJRs and JRs (collectively, registrars) undertake the majority of front-end case management and interlocutory work which was previously undertaken by judges. In addition, they perform a significant proportion of dispute resolution events to resolve proceedings. CMs, LCMs and SJR Associates (collectively, registrar support staff) provide direct, one-on-one support to registrars in the case management of their family law caseload. This includes supporting registrars working on various specialist lists across the Courts, including but not limited to, the Evatt list and the National Contravention List. The Registrar Support Team Leader role is responsible for the daily oversight and management of registrar support staff in their registry, under a national management structure led by the Director – National Registrar Support. Registrar Support Team Leaders should be proactive, collaborative and possess great communication and leadership skills to ensure smooth and effective operations within their team and across the cohort. Key responsibilities and duties Resourcing and coverage: manage ad hoc leave coverage and temporary allocations, develop and maintain relationships with other Team Leaders nationally, regular reporting and communication with the Director – National Registrar Support, be responsive to requests from external and internal stakeholders. Recruitment and training: assist with recruitment, induction, on‑boarding and training of new CMs, LCMs and SJR Associates, lead induction and training in their region, work with individual staff to address competency or training issues, coordinate with IT for access, liaise with P&C for HR issues, ensure training resources are up to date. Management of local staff: approve leave and timesheets, manage probation periods, develop relationships with Court users, facilitate training and professional development opportunities, conduct regular performance and well‑being check‑ins, anticipate support needs, report on performance to the Director – National Registrar Support. Maintain and update policies, processes and procedures: maintain comprehensive knowledge of the Courts’ case management systems and internal chambers processes, provide information and advice to registrar support cohort to ensure chambers operate in accordance with national guidelines. Support registrar operations: provide ad hoc legal and administrative support to local registrars when needed, draft correspondence, prepare reports, manage schedule of hearings, engage with Courts online databases, provide court officer support and assistance with registrar case management. Operational flexibility: may be asked to support registrars in other registries/regions and in managerial roles across other parts of the Courts’ jurisdiction, or be offered national operations and/or policy roles. Professional qualifications, competencies and attributes Exemplary communication, negotiation, interpersonal and relationship‑building skills. Strong analytical, change management and operational skills, with a focus on achieving exceptional standards in service delivery for court users and the Courts. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in all written and oral communications. Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, including an aptitude for building and maintaining positive professional relationships and and confidential information appropriately. Substantial management knowledge and experience working within and leading teams in a variety of environments. Sound knowledge or ability to acquire such knowledge of court procedures, guidelines, policies and practices, including internal case management, data and IT systems used by the Courts. Selection criteria Strong communication (oral and written) and liaison skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels. Exercise tact and discretion, act impartially and maintain confidentiality at all times. Demonstrated leadership skills and management experience, ideally in a court or public service setting. Organisational skills, including the ability to manage several processes at once, attention to detail, excellent time management and planning skills, and problem‑solving skills. Working knowledge or capability to quickly acquire a high‑level working knowledge of key internal procedures, guidelines, policies and practices used in the Courts. Sound IT proficiency, including videoconferencing platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Webex, and ability to learn and adapt to new systems and technology quickly. Ability to work autonomously and as part of a geographically dispersed team with limited direction, and to adapt to changing situations and priorities. Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the application of the Australian Public Service (APS) Values, abiding by the APS Code of Conduct and complying with the principles of Workplace Diversity and Occupational Health and Safety. Eligibility Australian citizenship – the successful applicant must hold Australian citizenship. Security and character clearance – the successful applicant must satisfy a Police Records Check and may also be required to complete security clearances during the course of their employment. Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
