Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support The Department Is Committed To Keeping Queensland Communities Safe. Everyone Deserves a Life Free From Violence And Fear. We Are Actively Tackling The Complex Causes Of Youth Crime And Addressing Serious Repeat Offenders And Ensuring Our Systems And Services Not Only Meet But Anticipate The Needs Of Victims. We Do This By Providing early intervention, statutory Youth Justice, and detention services to ensure that young people are held accountable for their offending behaviour. We help support them to become responsible members of the community. Providing trauma-informed support and resources to victims to ensure they can recover and heal, whilst ensuring the voices and experiences of victims are heard and respected. The role of the Program Coordinator is to develop, deliver, and train staff in facilitating programs and activities in response to the criminogenic and support needs of young people in youth detention. These programs will be in accordance with case plans, culturally responsive and evidence informed programs focus on reducing the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young person in the youth justice system. Key Responsibilities Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Provide supervision to staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality programs and activities to young people, in accordance with relevant legislative provisions, statutory delegations, departmental policies, procedures and contemporary best practice. Deliver/source training to staff on group facilitation skills and the delivery of a range of programs. Co‑facilitate and support the delivery of programs at the youth detention centre. Maintain knowledge of contemporary trends, practices, funding initiatives and service delivery options to ensure the delivery of best practice youth detention programs and services. Liaise and collaborate with key stakeholders to promote effective coordination, integration and delivery of high-quality programs and activities for young people in youth detention. Participate as a member of the Wacol Youth Remand Centre management team and contribute to strategic and operational planning, reviews and key decision-making. Establish and maintain recording and reporting systems to ensure efficient and accountable management and delivery of youth detention programs.
