The position provides an opportunity to assess and manage children in the ambulatory, acute care and resuscitation areas of the Emergency Department, working with a team of paediatric trainees, emergency trainees, RMO’s, experienced nursing, allied health and clerical staff. The paediatric emergency specialists and fellows are on site for extended hours and on-call at all times. The ED CMO is a leadership role within the department for junior medical staff, medical students and multidisciplinary team members, and across the broader hospital community. The role will involve teaching, departmental quality assurance and clinical research as appropriate. Selection Criteria MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category. Minimum five years post graduate experience with minimum 36 months in Paediatrics, or Emergency Medicine experience in an Emergency Department with a paediatric patient caseload. An interest in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. Completed APLS within 5 years or is a current APLS Instructor and demonstrates competency in common paediatric procedures. Excellent communication, leadership and teamwork skills with demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent time management, problem solving skills, clinical skills, judgment and expertise. Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, with a willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
