Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Senior Geotechnical Engineer Reporting to the Superintendent Geotechnical - Survey, this role is to ensure professional application of geotechnical principles to the day‑to‑day and mid‑term planning and operation of the underground mine at Rosebery. Key Accountabilities (however not limited to) Ensuring the collection and processing of consistent and high‑quality geotechnical data required for ground control, mine planning and design requirements in accordance with the PMHMP for ground and strata instability and industry best practice. Management of a geotechnical data management system which ensures that data is well organised and accessible to relevant users, but adequately secured to avoid inadvertent alteration or loss. Ensuring that historic rock mass performance in excavations is recorded and interpreted. Appropriate design criteria are developed and verified on an ongoing basis to ensure that they support the mine design, planning and sequencing process. Inspection, investigation and analysis of all rock falls including formal documentation (e.g. reports and actioning of any key recommendations). Keep informed of industry trends and practices through the review of relevant literature, incident alerts, etc. Recommending and assisting with training and refresher training for all personnel to improve their awareness and understanding of ground control procedures, monitoring techniques and ground failure warning signs. Implementing required geotechnical TARP actions as relevant. Providing geotechnical input into short‑term (monthly) to medium‑term (quarterly to bi‑annual) mine design / planning. Developing and maintaining geotechnical databases for ground conditions, damage maps, micro‑seismic monitoring, extensometers and other deformation monitoring, and stope stability performance data. Interpretation of structural data and models to ensure that structures are considered in ground support, development and stope design. Identifying and communicating risks and mitigation strategies for all mine development and production issues, within the short to medium‑term planning horizon. About You Unwavering commitment to safe work practices, and must be able to pass a pre‑employment medical and drug & alcohol screen. Tertiary Qualification in Mining / Geotechnical Engineering. Affiliation to a recognised rock engineering association (EAGCG / ISRM). Minimum of 7 years experience in a similar role within an underground metalliferous environment. Proven supervisory experience in operations, technical services, or project management. Experience with sub‑level stoping methods ideal. High level of practical underground mining knowledge including mining principles with working knowledge of mine planning processes. Understanding of safety, environment and community obligations. Geotechnical obligations under state Acts and Regulations. Well‑developed analytical, interpretive and constructive / lateral thinking skills. Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, and mining software such as Deswik. Knowledge and understanding of current relevant Mining Act and Regulations. A proven history with safe work practises, with the ability to identify and address unsafe practices. Experience in deep, high‑stress underground mining highly desirable. Exposure to converging ground conditions and seismic hazard management will be viewed favourably, but is not essential. Valid Driver's Licence. What we offer A safety‑first culture.
