About the team: The Cancer Information and Support Services Division (CISS) aims to empower and support people affected by cancer, helping them navigate the cancer journey and make informed decisions. The Practical Support Services team provides practical support, including pro bono legal and workplace advice, accommodation and transport assistance, and financial support to reduce stress and improve quality of life. About the role Working with the Practical Support Services team, the Pro Bono Coordinator coordinates the delivery of pro bono legal, financial planning and workplace professional services for people affected by cancer. This support is delivered by partnering with external pro bono partners across the country to provide free advice to patients and carers who cannot afford access. This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract based at our Woolloomooloo office, offered under a hybrid working model. Key responsibilities Oversee case management of clients referred to Cancer Council’s Legal, Financial Planning and Workplace Referral Services, including eligibility screening and determining appropriate solutions. Contact cancer patients and carers by phone to determine eligibility for pro bono advice. Identify clients’ legal, financial and workplace issues and connect them with pro bono service providers to receive free advice and support. Establish and manage relationships with pro bono professional service providers across the country to ensure engagement and high-quality support. Build relationships with referring healthcare professionals to increase awareness of available services and high-quality referrals. Oversee volunteers (law students or others) and provide day-to-day supervision, workflow management, recruitment, training and onboarding. Collaborate on projects and evaluations to improve delivery and impact of the service. Assist with promotional requests and presentations to internal or external stakeholders. About You Essential A tertiary qualification in law or relevant field. One to two years' experience coordinating pro bono or support services, or other legal-related experience. High-level written and oral communication skills. Experience communicating with vulnerable clients. Initiative, problem-solving, and ability to manage competing priorities. Relationship management skills and ability to work with a range of stakeholders internal and external. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Desirable Experience in not-for-profit or pro bono sector. Basic knowledge of or interest in oncology, cancer services and the needs of persons affected by cancer.
