Medical Scientist - Microbiology (Grade 1) Join the The Royal Children's Hospital as a Medical Scientist – Microbiology (Grade 1), a full‑time, fixed‑term position (15 Dec 25 – 31 Jul 26) covering parental leave replacement in the Molecular Microbiology Laboratory. About the role This role involves daily diagnostic microbiology testing, instrumentation maintenance, and participation in training and quality assurance activities. The laboratory operates 08:30‑17:30 Monday‑Friday, with additional weekend shifts as required by the roster. Key responsibilities Perform routine and specialised microbiological diagnostic tests, validate results and report findings. Maintain and troubleshoot microbiology instrumentation. Complete training and comply with standard operating procedures and laboratory policies. Work collaboratively with the team to achieve service goals. Participate in roster coverage, including public holidays and on‑call duties. Qualifications & experience Bachelor of Applied Science, Bachelor of Science, or an equivalently recognised overseas degree. Professional scientist membership of the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists or the Australian Society for Microbiology. Desirable: a major in Microbiology. Experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory, preferably in paediatric or obstetrics/gynecology settings. Benefits Discounted on‑site car parking. Employee Assistance Program.
