General Surgery is a core specialty at Werribee Mercy Hospital (WMH) with expansion and growth seen in the last few years. The position will assist the General Surgery consultants provide a range of services at WMH including emergency assessment and management, pre and post-operative care, attending operating lists and the outpatient management of patients across a range of emergency and elective general surgery conditions. About the opportunity One fixed term contract is available - Feb 2026 to Feb 2027. NOTE: We are NOT accepting applications for supervision of international medical graduates (IMGs). Clinical duties will be as a senior registrar/fellow, that includes support for the 2 accredited (SET) registrars, unaccredited registrars and residents in general surgery. Provide high quality clinical care under the supervision, or with the support, of the consultant general surgery surgeons and participate fully in the activities of the department. The position would be for a doctor post fellowship level general surgery examinations, and seeking to gain future entry into a General Surgery sub-speciality program. Will be required to participate in the oncall roster that may include some weekends The successful applicant will be employed as per the terms and conditions set out in the current Victorian Public Health Sector (AMA - Victoria) Doctors in Training (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement Research projects would be encouraged and supported as part of this role ABOUT YOU: Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA) Applicants must be eligible for registration with AHPRA for positions of up to 12 months from starting date as a surgical registrar FRACS or post-FEX (Fellowship Examination), obtained in Australia or New Zealand. Prior experience as a general surgery registrar in a senior role A high standard of written and verbal communication skills A practical common approach to problem solving & trouble shooting Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team Ability to travel to work (no accommodation available) Would like to have experience in clinical management of general surgery, complex operations and clinics in a supervised capacity You work in the area long term Willingness to participate in research Skills in quality assurance, audit and rostering Teaching What you'll bring You're resilient, compassionate and have a whole lot of heart.
