Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future. Downer Professional Services is comprised of two business units, our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice and Team Downer, a major service partner to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and National Security. We currently have an opportunity for a Finance and Commercial Officer based in Canberra to support complex financial reporting and commercial functions within Defence projects, ensuring compliance, stakeholder engagement, and delivery of financial outcomes. What You’ll Do Prepare and analyse financial reports for Defence projects and sustainment Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on financial and commercial matters Support invoice processing, asset reconciliations, and impairment reviews Contribute to Defence‑specific reporting (e.g. MPR, PPRIP, SPMS) Provide advice on compliance with financial legislation and Defence frameworks What You’ll Bring 5+ years’ experience in project finance or Defence financial roles Strong analytical skills and commercial acumen Proficiency in MILIS and financial management systems Understanding of Defence financial frameworks and reporting tools Ideally relevant qualifications (AQF 6 or higher) Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
