About us The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. About the role The Worker Screening Unit (WSU) is responsible for administering the Worker Screening Act 2020 by processing applications for Working with Children Checks and NDIS Worker Screening Checks. The role of Manager, Initial Assessment is to lead and manage a team of Initial Assessment Officers and be accountable for ensuring they complete high quality and timely initial assessments and gather the appropriate supporting documentation. The Manager of the Initial Assessment team is required to maintain strong stakeholder relationships with other relevant business units, external agencies and community organisations in the delivery of key operational program objectives. Key accountabilities include : Accountable for the day-to-day operations of the team, ensuring the team produces quality outcomes. Ensure Initial Assessment business processes, guidelines and templates are developed, documented and maintained. Actively contribute as a member of the leadership team, providing strategic leadership, performance monitoring and planning and resource management in a continuous improvement environment. Provide professional supervision of staff, and develop staff potential through coaching and feedback, training, motivating and mentoring. In conjunction with Legal Services, provide leadership in the interpretation of legislation to inform key operational policy and processes. About you To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate : Technical Expertise : Demonstrated experience working with legislation and its application within a sensitive operational environment. Working Collaboratively : Build a supportive and cooperative team environment; engages other teams to share information to understand or respond to issues; support others in challenging situations. Critical Thinking and Problem Solving : Resolves issues through deep understanding or interpretation of existing guidelines. Where guidelines are not available, analyses ideas available and takes action through self, or in consultation with others to resolve problems. If required, determine additional information needed to make informed decisions. Applies critical thinking and problem-solving concepts in the right context. Stakeholder Engagement : Takes steps to add value for the client or stakeholder; Links people with other areas as appropriate; Monitors client and stakeholder satisfaction; Constructively deals with stakeholder issues. Develop Capability : Actively seeks to improve others' skills and talents by providing knowledge, constructive feedback, coaching and learning opportunities; consistently develops team capability; Recognise and develop potential in others. Promote Inclusion : Pays attention to words, expression and body language; recognises behaviours that promote a culture of inclusion. Hold self and team accountable towards being inclusive to individuals from diverse backgrounds. Takes corrective actions when behaviours displayed do not promote an inclusive workplace.
