About the school The National School of Arts and Sciences is one of two national schools in the Faculty of Arts, Sciences, Law and Business. The National School is based on two distinct campuses in Fremantle and Sydney. The School of Arts and Sciences delivers a practical, ethical and industry-focused education in diverse areas of study such as the liberal arts, communications and media, counselling and science, with a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs on offer. About the role The Lecturer (Computer Science) role involves teaching computer science courses in face-to-face and blended learning environments at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will conduct and foster research in areas such as data science, artificial intelligence, and cyber security, while overseeing industry-aligned courses and seeking opportunities to attract external grant income. The position also includes building collaborative links with industry, undertaking academic administrative duties such as course coordination and moderation across campuses, and contributing to cross-disciplinary initiatives. Active involvement in professional engagement is encouraged, and you will be expected to demonstrate leadership in teaching and learning, scholarship, and community relations, ensuring excellence in student engagement. Key Responsibilities Teach foundational and advanced computer science courses, including operating systems, computer architecture, computational modelling, programming languages, and compilers. Actively contribute to curriculum design and development, ensuring alignment with contemporary advancements in the computer science discipline. Provide leadership and management in course coordination and delivery, which may include supervising sessional academic staff. Support governance, marketing, promotion, and administrative activities to advance the discipline, the school, and the wider University. Qualifications, skills & experience Doctoral qualification in Computer Science or equivalent accreditation and/or standing. Membership with the Australian Computer Society (ACS). Experience and/or research in Computer Science, with demonstrated capability in areas such as data science, artificial intelligence, or cyber security, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a national team. Proven teaching experience, including developing and delivering computer science courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, particularly in areas such as operating systems, computer architecture, computational modelling, programming languages, and compilers, with the capacity to integrate new technologies and innovative teaching approaches. Strong networking skills to support the national and international positioning of the School in Computer Science or related disciplines. Demonstrated ability to publish high-quality research outcomes and secure internal and nationally competitive research grants.
