About the Role As a Cyber Security Specialist at Teachers Mutual Bank you will be involved in a wide range of security initiatives across the bank, be responsible for working with internal stakeholders to secure existing and incoming technology solutions, and have the freedom to make real change. You will work as a member of the IT Security team to support the implementation of key security controls and support the organisation top‑down to support new initiatives and change. This role will be hands‑on‑tools, supporting the implementation and effective management of security controls that protect the organisation from Information Security threats. This requires you to maintain acute awareness of the threat actors to the organisation and have a structured approach to measure the organisations exposure, and therefore risk and control requirements. Responsibilities Configures and oversees the operation of key security controls across the enterprise, to ensure they remain effective and balance security with business impact. Undertakes vendor assessments and drive vendors to implement improvements in security controls where deficits are identified. Oversees and ensures the secure operation of cloud service provider environments. Supports the identification and management of information security risks across the enterprise, including the use of information classification to measure the adequacy of controls. Maintains active awareness of the external and internal threat environment through industry groups, threat intelligence feeds and collaboration with other financial organisations. Supports the development and maintenance of robust threat models to ensure threats and vulnerabilities are identified and mitigated. Supports incident and response processes within the organisation. Coordinates, triages and tracks the completion of findings for vulnerability assessments and security testing. Supports the maintenance of Information Security frameworks, policies and procedures to ensure they remain relevant, accurate and effective. Collaborates with the business on change initiatives/projects to ensure effective identification and management of information security impacts. Qualifications & Skills Recent practical experience with common security tools and assessment requirements One or more relevant security certifications (e.g. CISSP, GIAC certificates, cloud‑specific security certifications, OSCP, CREST, SABSA) A working knowledge of common information security frameworks (e.g. NIST CSF, ISO27001, PCI DSS, ASD strategies) In‑depth Cyber Security Knowledge Security controls and system architecture design, engineering, and testing Vendor security assessments Securing cloud service provider environments Using information classifications to drive risk‑based discussions Threat and vulnerability identification and remediation, Code reviews Assessing and hardening systems for security weaknesses Security event monitoring and alerting (such as Splunk) tooling, threat hunting, and building detection rules Incident response and recovery Triaging and coordinating vulnerability assessments and security testing Monitoring the effectiveness of security controls and delivering continuous improvement programmes Knowledge/Experience with any scripting language (Python) and automation is preferred. Experience in banking or financial services is preferred but not necessary. Experience in Threat hunting or penetration testing would be advantageous. Experience with Cloud migration would be advantageous. Translate technical issues and risks into business language for internal stakeholders.
