Selection Criteria Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently when completing general maintenance, gardening tasks and repairs. Demonstrated ability to regularly liaise with contractors on the school site. Possess the technical knowledge and expertise relevant to the position. Demonstrated ability to identify and assess potential risks, provide advice and support to management, and work within OHS policy and guidelines. Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills. Role The officer triages all maintenance requests, prioritising tasks based on safety, urgency, and impact on learning. They communicate regularly with leadership about major works, hazards, and contractor activity, while keeping accurate maintenance records. The role supports school operations by assisting with event setup, monitoring compliance with safety standards, and ensuring a welcoming, well‑presented environment for students, staff and visitors. Responsibilities The Grounds and Maintenance Officer ensures that the school environment is safe, clean and well maintained. Key responsibilities include conducting daily safety checks, responding to hazards and keeping all buildings, playgrounds and outdoor spaces in good condition. The role involves general grounds work such as mowing, gardening, waste management and yard presentation, as well as minor repairs to buildings and equipment. The school has a strong wellbeing focus utilising a range of resources including SWPBS, Respectful Relationships, Zones of Regulation, Social Stencil, Talking the Talk, Cyber safety lessons and Berry Street Education. The school enjoys a positive reputation in the community and aims to continue building positive and productive relationships with parents. It is a highly connected parent community where more than 30 languages are spoken and parents provide support to student learning through the parent helpers programme for classroom assistance, excursions, camps and special events. They are also very active in creating opportunities for parent and community connections and links to the wider community events that enhance the partnership between home and school and with the wider community and global contexts.
