The Team English as an Additional Language (EAL) is a state-wide collaborative service that provides educational support to students, families, and their schools. Building capacity in schools and helping students to acquire English is the primary purpose of the service. Many EAL students have experienced complex trauma, particularly those from refugee backgrounds, which may impact on their ability to successfully participate at school. All EAL students have English as another language. About The Role The Social Worker – EAL operates across both school and community sites as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, delivering social work services that support school staff, EAL students, and families. In this role, the incumbent will support an assigned network of schools by addressing student well-being and helping children navigate complex settlement and trauma-related challenges. The incumbent will provide expert guidance to the Department on school social work responsibilities for children from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. Additionally, the incumbent will lead initiatives to build capacity and promote best practices – whether within the Social Work team or the broader school setting – as directed by the principal and/or Supervisor. We are looking for Essential Tertiary qualification/program of study approved by the Australian Association of Social Workers; AND Eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers. Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) with a registration Status – Employment Desirable Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience providing social work services to children and young people from CALD backgrounds.
