As KARI’s first dedicated WHS & IM Specialist, you’ll play a pivotal role in designing frameworks, guiding policy development, and fostering a safety‑first culture that aligns with both legislative requirements and our deep cultural values. You’ll work closely with the CEO, KARI Executive, Managers and staff across all states, while also liaising with external partners to ensure best‑in‑class workplace safety and wellbeing outcomes. Tasks and Responsibilities Lead the development, implementation and monitoring of WHS and injury management frameworks Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, codes of practice, and internal standards Conduct investigations into incidents and support implementation of corrective actions Manage early intervention, injury management and return‑to‑work processes Deliver psychosocial risk assessments and coordinate controls Provide regular WHS reporting, analysis and governance updates Coordinate internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives Develop and deliver WHS training and communications across the organisation Maintain WHS systems in collaboration with leadership and external providers Requirements Current NSW Working with Children Check (Paid Worker) National Criminal Record Check Valid Australian Driver’s Licence (minimum Provisional 2 or equivalent) Skills and Experience Tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety or a related field Proven experience in WHS and injury management in a complex, multi‑site organisation Strong understanding of WHS legislation, risk management and compliance frameworks Demonstrated ability to lead investigations and implement preventative strategies Experience delivering WHS training and building safety capability across teams Confident communicator with the ability to influence across all levels Highly organised, self‑driven, and capable of working autonomously Ability to balance strategic oversight with hands‑on implementation This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of a newly created role and build a meaningful safety legacy.
