Research Assistant – University of Melbourne Role type: Full time and fixed term for 12 monthsFaculty: Medicine, Dentistry and Health SciencesDepartment/School: Department of Anatomy and PhysiologySalary: Level – $79,677 – 87,266 p.a. plus 17% super Join the Enteric Neural Plasticity Laboratory as a Research Assistant to support cutting‑edge research into novel stem cell therapies for Hirschsprung Disease. You will gain hands‑on experience with in vivo models, cell transplantation and gut tissue analysis while collaborating in a highly innovative, multi‑centre research environment. This role offers a chance to make a significant impact on paediatric healthcare and advance your research career. Your responsibilities will include: Conducting in vivo experiments on transgenic mouse and rat lines, including injections, gut motility assays and post‑surgical care. Managing and maintaining human pluripotent stem cell lines, ensuring sterile technique and differentiation. Performing surgical experiments, assisting in transplanting stem cells into gastrointestinal tracts and collecting tissues for analysis. Maintaining laboratory operations: accurate record keeping, consumable management and compliance with research protocols. You may be a great fit if: You have a BSc (Hons) in a relevant field, are adept at animal‑based research, maintain data integrity and thrive in collaborative environments. You must have experience in small animal handling and in vivo experimentation. Prior experience in digestive physiology is highly desirable. People with additional skills will be considered: Immunohistochemistry, histology and microscopy. Expertise in sterile cell culture techniques. Strong communication and problem‑solving skills. Excellent record‑keeping and attention to detail. Willingness to work occasionally outside normal hours for experiment completion.
