Come and join us. The Department of Education is seeking applications for Special Education teachers (education support) to fill vacancies teaching all age groups across Western Australia. Who we are looking for To teach in a Western Australian public school you must have a recognised, completed initial teacher education qualification. This may be a completed Bachelor of Education, or equivalent; or an undergraduate degree and a post‑graduate teaching qualification. For our special education (education support) positions you must demonstrate training in this area of specialisation during your teacher training. Eligibility and training To be eligible for this role applicants will be required to: provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy More detail on the role of a Special Education teacher can be found below. Job duties Job duties assessing students' abilities and limitations with regard to intellectual, physical, social and emotional disabilities, exceptional intellectual gifts, or specific problems of language and culture planning, organising and implementing special programs to provide remedial or advanced tuition administering various forms of assessment and interpreting the results teaching basic academic subjects, and practical and self‑help skills to hearing and sight impaired students devising instructional materials, methods and aids to assist in training and rehabilitation advising, instructing and counselling parents and teachers on the availability and use of special techniques stimulating and developing interests, abilities, manual skills and coordination conferring with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons for special needs students preparing and maintaining student data and other records and submitting reports Our teachers undertake their duties in line with the School Education Act 1999.
