Job Description Position Overview: The Institute of Health and Management (IHM) invites applications from candidates who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander for the position of Nurse Lecturer in the School of Nursing. This identified role is integral to advancing Indigenous representation in health education and ensuring culturally safe learning environments. The successful candidate will play a key role in embedding First Nations perspectives, knowledge, and cultural safety practices across the nursing curriculum and student experience. Key Responsibilities Deliver culturally safe nursing education that integrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health perspectives, histories, and health determinants. Actively mentor and support Indigenous nursing students to enhance their academic success and wellbeing. Participate in curriculum design and review processes to ensure alignment with Indigenous cultural safety frameworks and best practices. Collaborate with Indigenous communities, elders, and health organizations to strengthen the relevance and impact of nursing education. Promote and model culturally respectful communication, teaching strategies, and professional conduct within the academic environment. Facilitate Indigenous cultural awareness training and learning opportunities for staff and students. Contribute to IHM’s Reconciliation Action Plan implementation through teaching, research, and community engagement. Undertake scholarly activities including research, publication, and presentation focusing on Indigenous health and nursing education. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards while promoting Indigenous leadership in nursing education. Desired Skills and Experience Qualifications and Experience: Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity is essential. Master’s degree in Nursing or related discipline. Current AHPRA registration as Registered Nurse Experience in teaching nursing students with a focus on Indigenous cultural safety and inclusion. Demonstrated understanding of the social and cultural determinants affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. Well-developed skills in community engagement and collaboration with Indigenous stakeholders. Higher education teaching experience and curriculum development knowledge, especially in culturally responsive education. Valid National Police Check and Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain). Key Skills and Attributes: Commitment to advancing Indigenous health equity through education. Expert knowledge of cultural safety principles, and ability to embed these into teaching practice. Strong interpersonal skills with cultural humility and the ability to build trusted relationships with Indigenous communities. Proficiency in innovative teaching delivery including online, blended, and face-to-face modes. Ability to foster an inclusive learning culture that respects Indigenous knowledge systems and student diversity. Performance Indicators: Effective integration of Indigenous perspectives in course content and delivery. Positive feedback from Indigenous students and community partners. Increased retention and success rates of Indigenous nursing students. Active contribution to Indigenous community engagement initiatives. Demonstrated leadership in cultural safety education within the School of Nursing.
