As a Technical Officer, you’ll run field and glasshouse trials from site selection to harvest, capturing high-quality plant, soil and disease data that directly shapes product development. You’ll manage data and reports, help test new products in the lab, and work closely with growers, agronomists and our sales and research teams to deliver real on-farm impact. Who are we? Metagen operates across three main pillars, laboratory services and research, a product range of plant and soil health products, and agronomic grower services. Central to these three areas is our advanced metabarcoding laboratory that offers a new generation in agricultural analytics to both industry and growers. Metagen is committed to innovative scientific approaches for improved sustainability and productivity. The Role: As a Technical Officer at Metagen, you will support the technical, sales and research teams by conducting field and glasshouse crop trials, from site selection through to data collection and harvest. You will gather and manage high-quality trial data, perform product testing and basic laboratory procedures, and provide clear, accurate information to support product development. The role also involves coordinating trial activities with growers, agronomists, and industry partners. Key Responsibilities: Field and Glasshouse trial Conduction Assist with the conduction of efficacy crop trials in field and glasshouse environments, including site selection, planting, crop maintenance, and harvesting to support research and product development. Collect accurate trial data and samples, including plant growth measurements, pest and disease monitoring, soil and tissue sampling, and other required observations to a regulatory standard. Data management and reporting Accurately record and manage trial data with attention to detail and integrity. Support the technical team by communicating field observations and assisting with documentation and report preparation where needed. Laboratory and product testing Conduct compatibility testing of products and agricultural chemicals by following established trial and laboratory protocols. Conduct basic microbiology laboratory procedures when needed for experimental purposes. Stakeholder Relationships Liaise with growers, agronomists and industry to coordinate trial activities and maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders. Support Metagen sales and technical staff where needed. Skills and Experience: Mandatory: Experience in field research and development Completion of an agricultural science degree or similar Must be comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions and performing physically demanding tasks Training or experience in applied plant pathology or applied agronomy Knowledge of field crop production systems including detailed knowledge of crop protection and agronomic practices Knowledge of the APVMA regulatory process for submission of efficacy data Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required. This role is part of a multi-disciplinary team and requires daily collaboration with peers locally and across geographies Chemcert qualifications and comfortable handling chemical substances with full personal protective equipment #J-18808-Ljbffr
