About The Role The Manager Campaigns will lead a global team that develops and executes integrated, always‑on global, regional and local advocacy campaigns. The role builds support for BHP’s business and policy priorities, protects reputation, manages risk and contributes to social value creation. Accountabilities Lead strategic planning to identify advocacy and regulatory challenges over 2‑5 years and develop BHP’s global always‑on advocacy strategy. Set global strategy and oversee always‑on, multi‑channel advocacy campaigns targeting decision makers (elected officials, regulators, investors, employees, voters and the public). Manage campaigns across multiple jurisdictions and time zones, ensuring consistent messaging while adapting strategy to local context and changing political landscape. Identify campaign risks (regulatory, reputational, competitive) and implement mitigants. Develop measurable objectives and monitor and analyse performance data to optimise strategy and messaging in real‑time. Integrate campaign activities with broader organisational objectives and risk management. Implement measurement frameworks to assess campaign effectiveness and ROI. Lead development and application of digital campaigning techniques in an always‑on advocacy context. Stay abreast of trends and developments in political advocacy, AI, digital campaigning and regulatory landscapes, continuously evaluating and implementing new techniques and technologies. Govern BHP ‘Always‑on Advocacy’ playbook and build team capabilities in emerging advocacy and campaigning tools and techniques. Manage campaign budgets, timelines and ensure effective resourcing and governance. Work closely with cross‑functional teams within Corporate Affairs, Communications, External Affairs, the business and external agencies to execute campaigns. Manage external vendors and agency partners that support strategy and execution globally and regionally. Oversee day‑to‑day management of the global team, including planning, budgeting and people development. About You Proven experience in political campaigning, government relations, or public affairs roles, particularly in highly regulated industries such as energy. Deep knowledge of campaigning techniques (voter and stakeholder segmentation, message framing, rapid response, coalition building, legislative advocacy). Ability to set a clear, compelling vision for always‑on advocacy campaigns and define long‑term objectives and pathways to achieve sustained influence. Proven expertise in developing comprehensive campaign strategies that leverage multiple channels and tactics. Experience managing campaign budgets, personnel, and external vendors efficiently. Mastery of digital campaigning tools (social media, content creation, online mobilisation, digital advertising). Knowledge of AI tools and hands‑on experience using AI for analytics, intelligence gathering and content creation is a plus. Experience managing and motivating a geographically dispersed, culturally sensitive team. Experience leading multi‑disciplinary teams in large, global businesses. Highly competent at data‑driven decision making using analytics and performance metrics. Ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and ensure compliance with BHP values and code of conduct. Strong critical thinking, decision‑making and ambiguity management skills. Ability to influence senior leadership and external stakeholders. Skilled in building trusted relationships with internal and external partners, coalition members and influencers.
