The Role Working with Dr Ashley Tsacalos, we currently have a rewarding opportunity for an ambitious and talented junior lawyer to join our highly renowned Public Sector practice group in Sydney. Our Public Sector team is a high‑performing, multidisciplinary practice supporting all areas of government activity. The team acts for government departments and agencies on dispute resolution and litigation matters including administrative law, tort claims and contractual disputes, and regularly advises on decision‑making, legal risk management, statutory interpretation, regulatory matters, compliance and enforcement activities, as well as privacy and access‑to‑information matters. It also handles a range of royal commissions, inquiries and inquests – the leading royal commission and inquiry practice in Australia. Key Responsibilities Dispute resolution and litigation, tort claims and administrative law matters such as judicial review and merits review; Royal commissions, inquiries and inquests; Represent clients including government departments, agencies and private sector bodies. Additionally, you will deepen your client relationship and networking skills through opportunities to undertake a variety of client secondments and business development activities. Skills & Experience 2‑3 years PQE with a strong academic record; Experience with a sound technical understanding of litigation and dispute resolution gained in a reputable commercial law firm, judge’s associateship or similar; Sound understanding of tort claims and/or administrative law would be advantageous; Excellent time‑management skills, with the resilience and ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks across a busy practice; Demonstrated genuine interest in government, public policy and the political landscape; Well‑developed interpersonal and communication skills; A positive, team‑player attitude with the ability and willingness to collaborate with others. We are also looking for someone with a strong work ethic who will utilise their initiative, have high attention to detail and a focus on providing outstanding service to clients.
