NSW Department of Education – Merrylands NSW Merrylands Public School, with 625 students (including 9 Aboriginal students) serves a diverse school community with 95% of students from EAL/D backgrounds and 15% with refugee experiences. We have 23 mainstream classes and five Support Classes which cater for students with mild/moderate intellectual disability and Autism. The school has a well established student wellbeing approach and embraces the Real Schools restorative practices methodology to support students and strengthen teacher capacity. Teachers collaborate with APC&I's, AP’s, intervention and EAL/D teachers and SLSO’s to promote the development of each child; supporting academic growth, social/emotional growth and personal excellence across the curriculum. Students access extra‑curricular activities in sport, creative and performing arts, debating and cultural activities. Support Unit students also access a range of inclusive sport and therapy programs across the year. The school has strong positive partnerships across the school community to promote the best outcomes for our students. Responsibilities Teach K‑6 with differentiated learning programmes that incorporate numeracy, literacy and technology. Implement effective classroom management practices to create a positive learning environment and support students with additional learning, social or emotional needs. Collaborate with APC&I’s, AP’s, intervention and EAL/D teachers and SLSO’s to promote academic, social/emotional growth and personal excellence. Participate in the school’s Restorative Practices programme and contribute to student wellbeing initiatives. Engage students in co‑curricular activities such as sport, creative and performing arts, debating and cultural activities. Qualifications & Selection Criteria Unconditional full approval to teach K‑6 from the NSW Department of Education. Demonstrated ability to inspire and engage students in quality differentiated learning programmes with authentic integration of technology. Effective classroom management skills that enhance student wellbeing and respond to students with additional learning or social/emotional needs. Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
