Senior Mental Health Support Worker at Bendigo Advertiser Contract Type: Fixed term | Role Type: Employment | Hours: Part time | Application deadline: Wednesday, 10 December 2025 – 23:59 | Location: Newcastle, Tyne and Wear | Salary: £28,000 Pro Rata | Salary Type: Fixed Salary We’re excited to be opening a brand‑new Children and Young People’s Safe Haven in Newcastle and Gateshead City Centres in January 2026. This innovative service is a partnership between Everyturn Mental Health-Streetwise and Children North East, and we’re looking for a passionate Senior Mental Health Support Worker to help co‑ordinate and deliver these services. What You'll Do: Support young people accessing the Safe Haven, using active listening, de‑escalation, and calm communication. Work 1:1 to develop skills, confidence, and mental health knowledge, co‑producing safety plans and offering guidance/signposting. Liaise with external services, parents, and carers, keeping up‑to‑date with referral pathways. Support the Team Lead with project coordination, including rotas, reporting, and peer supervision. Provide guidance to the wider delivery team in day‑to‑day service delivery. Keep accurate records and contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and feedback collection. Respond to safeguarding concerns in line with Everyturn/CNE policies. Promote equality, accessibility, and a safe, welcoming environment for all young people. What We're Looking For: Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children/young people experiencing mental health difficulties, including SEND or neurodivergence. Relevant qualification (minimum diploma level) in work with children and young people. Experience working in a team and contributing to peer supervision. Knowledge of young people’s mental health, therapeutic interventions, and referral pathways. Ability to inspire, motivate, and empower young people, assessing their needs effectively. Awareness of safeguarding procedures; training provided. Strong communication, organisation, and record‑keeping skills. Ability to work autonomously, manage workload, and thrive in a challenging environment. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required. Desirable: Youthwork, early years, or family work‑related qualification (level 2 or above). Desirable: Experience working with underserved communities, e.g., looked‑after children, LGBTQ+ young people, or minoritised groups.
