Senior Mental Health Support Worker – VONNE (Voluntary Organisations' Network North East) Contract Type: Fixed term – Part time – Salary: £28,000 Pro Rata (Fixed Salary). Location: Tyne and Wear, Newcastle. Join a brand‑new Children and Young People’s Safe Haven set to open in Newcastle and Gateshead City Centres in January 2026. This innovative service, a partnership between Everyturn Mental Health‑Streetwise and Children North East, seeks a passionate Senior Mental Health Support Worker to coordinate and deliver high‑quality support. About the Role As a Senior Mental Health Support Worker you will provide safe, welcoming, and effective support to young people both in‑person and online. You will work closely with the Team Lead to coordinate projects, offer peer support to the delivery team, and ensure excellent outcomes for those accessing the service. What You’ll Do Support young people accessing the Safe Haven using active listening, de‑escalation, and calm communication. Work 1:1 to develop skills, confidence, and mental health knowledge, co‑producing safety plans and offering guidance/signposting. Liaise with external services, parents and carers, keeping up‑to‑date with referral pathways. Support the Team Lead with project coordination, including rotas, reporting, and peer supervision. Provide guidance to the wider delivery team in day‑to‑day service delivery. Keep accurate records and contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and feedback collection. Respond to safeguarding concerns in line with Everyturn/CNE policies. Promote equality, accessibility, and a safe, welcoming environment for all young people. What We’re Looking For Essential Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children/young people experiencing mental health difficulties, including SEND or neuro‑divergence. Relevant qualification (minimum diploma level) in work with children and young people. Experience working in a team and contributing to peer supervision. Knowledge of young people’s mental health, therapeutic interventions and referral pathways. Ability to inspire, motivate, and empower young people, assessing their needs effectively. Awareness of safeguarding procedures; training provided. Strong communication, organisation, and record‑keeping skills. Ability to work autonomously, manage workload, and thrive in a challenging environment. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required. Desirable Youthwork, early years or family work‑related qualification (level 2 or above). Experience with underserved communities, e.g. looked‑after children, LGBTQ+ young people or minoritised groups.
