Female Ranger Coordinator – Strong Country team Nyamal Aboriginal Corporation – Port Hedland WA Starting in the new year with option to work remote fulltime until Feb 2026 to aid in the transition to Port Hedland Reporting to the General Manager (Strong Country), you will be responsible for coordinating and managing the on-ground activities of the Nyamal Rangers Program, ensuring all work meets contractual obligations and aligns with the Nyamal Healthy Country Plan and strategic objectives of Nyamal Aboriginal Corporation. A key focus of this role is leading the development and implementation of Nyamal’s Female Ranger Program—supporting, encouraging, and empowering Nyamal women to participate in on-country activities such as water monitoring, invasive species control, cultural site protection, plant and animal surveys, and threatened species management. The role involves trip planning, logistics, on-ground coordination, and mentoring of the Ranger team, with a strong emphasis on building culturally safe, supportive environments for women to participate in ranger work. You will work closely with Nyamal Rangers, Elders, community members, and stakeholders to integrate cultural knowledge into land management practices and ensure the preservation and strengthening of Nyamal Country. Key Responsibility Areas Female Ranger Program Development Lead the establishment, planning, and delivery of the Nyamal Female Ranger Program. Encourage and support Nyamal women to engage in on-country activities through culturally informed approaches. Work with Elders and cultural leaders to ensure activities are culturally appropriate and safe. Develop pathways for ongoing training, leadership development, and long-term participation of women in ranger careers. Build partnerships and seek opportunities to expand the program’s impact and visibility. Field Coordination & Supervision Lead the planning and execution of all on-ground activities, ensuring alignment with cultural and environmental standards while maintaining operational efficiency and safety. Facilitate on-country work including day trips, overnight stays, and multi-day camping trips to priority areas. Coordinate and supervise field activities including cultural heritage site management, invasive species control, threatened species monitoring, and waterway and habitat assessments. Develop, implement, and monitor work plans, schedules, and budgets for field activities. Ensure all work is conducted in accordance with Nyamal cultural protocols and environmental standards. Maintain a safe working environment and ensure correct use of personal protective equipment. Oversee maintenance and security of vehicles, equipment, and assets. Community Engagement Work closely with Nyamal Elders and community members to integrate cultural knowledge into all program activities. Strategically engage with community leaders, especially Nyamal women, to support participation in ranger work and strengthen cultural authority within the Female Ranger Program. Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, NGOs, research partners, and neighbouring Aboriginal organisations. Training & Development Drive the growth and capability of the Nyamal Ranger team through targeted training, mentorship, and leadership development. Identify training needs, with particular focus on developing opportunities for Nyamal women entering the ranger workforce. Provide mentoring, guidance, and professional development for all rangers. Reporting & Documentation Oversee accurate documentation of all program activities, ensuring transparency and accountability for both internal leadership and external partners. Maintain detailed records of field activities, monitoring data, work plans, and reports. Prepare and submit regular reports and support funding body reporting requirements. Financial Management Manage operational budgets and ensure all activities are delivered within allocated resources. Support the identification and pursuit of additional funding opportunities to sustain and expand the current programs. Essential Criteria Strong commitment to supporting the participation of Nyamal people in cultural and land management activities. Willingness to travel and camp on Country. Ability to navigate and adapt within a cross-cultural environment, demonstrating respect, calmness, and flexibility. Understanding of the social and cultural context of Aboriginal communities, particularly regarding women’s cultural roles, barriers, and empowerment. Strong team leadership and mentoring abilities. Excellent communication, organisational, and time management skills. Competence with Microsoft Office. Current Australian driver’s licence. Strong understanding of safe operating practices and ability to implement risk management strategies. Desirable Criteria Preference for the position to be filled by a Nyamal person, in accordance with the Corporation’s objectives (not a designated/identified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander role). Degree in Anthropology, Development Studies, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or equivalent experience. Experience operating 4WD vehicles in remote areas. Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, especially in remote settings. Experience working with state conservation agencies or federally funded ranger programs. Demonstrated experience in land management or remote fieldwork. Competence in GIS/mapping software. Current First Aid certificate. #J-18808-Ljbffr
