Who we are The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) commenced operations in 2013 as the national entity responsible for regulating all heavy vehicles with a gross vehicle mass over 4.5 tonnes. Overview Our Safety and Compliance officers are located across New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, the ACT, South Australia and Queensland. Due to growth, NHVR is expanding our Queensland team. Working as part of a large national on-roads operations unit, you are at the front‑line in keeping our roads safe by monitoring heavy vehicles, working with industry and applying the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL). Key responsibilities Perform on‑road and outdoor heavy vehicle inspection activities, including underbody inspections at interception sites. Provide advice, education and guidance to raise road safety awareness for heavy vehicles in the community. Undertake compliance and enforcement activities, including conducting heavy‑vehicle inspections and checking compliance of drivers and operators with the HVNL. Work as part of a team to deliver activities in accordance with relevant road transport laws, regulations and processes. Shift work with fortnightly rosters provided in advance; shifts may operate outside normal hours and on weekends. Travel to support regional areas; depending on location this may involve up to week‑long stays approximately one in every four weeks. Competitive salary of $106,526.16 + superannuation applicable allowances. About you Demonstrated experience in delivering a high standard of customer service. Motor‑vehicle open driver licence. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, able to foster effective relationships and maintain records. Flexibility to work varying shift times, weekends and undertake travel. Demonstrated commitment and passion for road safety. Established computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word and Outlook. High level of ethics and a pragmatic approach; familiar with exercising professional judgement and effective conflict management. Growth mindset and team‑player attitude. Experience in working with a range of policies and procedures. Mechanical qualifications or skills (highly desirable). Training and Commencement Successful candidates will be required to commence on 12th January 2026 and will start a comprehensive 6‑month training program from February 2026. Through the initial 6 months, training will be conducted at various locations, including seven 10‑day blocks of training; travel away from home and week‑long stays will be required.
