Mackay Regional Council is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Development Compliance Officer to join our Planning, Growth & Sustainability team. As a Development Compliance Officer, you will: Investigate reports of unlawful or non-complying development and breaches of approval conditions. Conduct audits and property inspections to ensure compliance with guidelines, relevant acts and Council requirements. Liaise with offenders, conduct follow-up inspections, prepare correspondence, and coordinate legal enforcement actions as needed. Provide expert advice on compliance matters to internal and external stakeholders. Represent Council in legal proceedings and collaborate with other departments and legal advisers. What We’re Looking For Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge in regulatory compliance, auditing, or investigation (preferably within Local Government). Knowledge of Local Government operations and the regulatory framework. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong analytical, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. Ability to maintain independence, professionalism, and objectivity. Sound time management and task prioritisation abilities. Trade Certificate in Building, Plumbing, or similar. Certificate in Planning, Regulatory Compliance, Investigation, or similar. Understanding of relevant Legislative Acts and Australian Standards (e.g, Planning Act 2016, Building Act 1975, Plumbing & Drainage Act 2018, Environmental Protection Act 1974 & relevant Local Laws). Why Join Us? Base annual salary of $82,413. Up to 18% superannuation (conditions apply). Choice of 4- or 5-weeks’ annual leave with 17.5% leave loading. 9-day fortnight roster.
