Senior Physiotherapist - Macmillan and Acute Medicine Are you an innovative and motivated individual that has an interest in working across the specialisms of acute medicine and oncology? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a static Band 6 Physiotherapist to join both the Macmillan and Acute Medicine therapy team within the Therapy department at Northampton General Hospital, part of the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire. This role will help you develop specialist clinical skills in oncology, haematology, and range of acute medical conditions, as well as allowing you the opportunity to be involved in staff development, audit and service improvement. As part of the role, you will be working within the Macmillan therapy team which provides access to grants for further opportunities to develop through training and specialist courses. You will also receive a Macmillan induction and have access to psychological support. We welcome applicants looking to further develop their band 6 skills within these specialist areas. Main duties of the job As a Band 6 clinician within a joint therapy service, you will be required to take part in delivering a quality Therapy Service working closely with other members of the Multidisciplinary Team including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Therapy Technical Instructors, Nurses, Medics, Social workers and the Hospital Complex case discharge Team. You will need to have an enthusiastic attitude, be forward thinking and have a problem-solving approach to patient management. The ability to work within a fast paced and pressured environment is essential, along with having excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and demonstration of the ability to support other team members. The post holder will be responsible for the provision of Therapy assessment, intervention, discharge planning of patients with complex diagnoses and supporting goals to maintain dignity and quality of life. You will also need to work in collaboration with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide a patient-centered service, working to identify patient needs to facilitate a safe and timely discharge from hospital. As a band 6, various training and development opportunities are available including protected time for CPD, and access to Macmillan resources to ensure that you are equipped with the competence and confidence required for this post. Job responsibilities Robust peer support from fellow Band 6s is encouraged with regular individual and team supervision held monthly. You will have the opportunity to supervise staff to provide clinical support and guidance. Within this post you will also have numerus opportunities to support Therapy students from our partner Universities. As a registered physiotherapist, you will be expected to partake in the respiratory on call service, providing evening respiratory on-call services until 10pm and weekend on call rota. To provide a specialist physiotherapy service to oncology and haematology patients admitted to the inpatient wards as well as patients with complex acute medical conditions. To be able to manage your time across 2 speciality areas ensuring you meet the demands of both services. To be an active member of the evening and weekend respiratory on call service. To provide specialist physiotherapy assessments and treatments for oncology and haematology patients, often with diverse, complex or multiple pathologies and presentations. To work closely with Occupational Therapy colleagues to provide joint therapies assessments and treatment plans enabling efficient use of Therapies Team resources. To manage a caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision, managing attendance of board rounds and ward meetings to contribute significantly to patient flow. To be highly skilled in identifying pathways of patient care, discharge plans, and suitable discharge locations. To provide high quality, evidence-based care to service users. To work as an autonomous practitioner to formulate a diagnosis and management programme according to assessment findings, and to develop and maintain high standards of patient care. To provide experienced advice, guidance and information within this area to patients, health and social care professionals, carers, relatives and other non-professionals. Provide clinical support and access to advice and supervision for junior staff Mentor physiotherapy students during clinical placements (MSc & BSc) providing support and regular supervision with support from the Practice Development Lead as required. Person Specification Education, Training and Qualifications BSc Honours (or equivalent) in Physiotherapy Health and Care Professions Council Registration UK work permit Awareness of current evidence pertaining to Physiotherapy interventions within the acute oncology and haematology setting Knowledge and Experience Experience of working as a qualified physiotherapist within the National Health Service; including experience in core rotations such as medicine, surgery and respiratory in an acute hospital setting. Current band 5 experience within an acute hospital setting. Evidence of Continuing Professional Development Participation in work-based learning Experience working in Oncology and Haematology Current experience in respiratory on call work Skills Evidence of a clear understanding of the role of the Physiotherapist in an acute oncology and haematology setting Good written and verbal communication Able to manage caseload autonomously Experience of interpersonal working Able to support and teach Technical instructors and band 5 staff Able to frequently cope with working in a stressful and emotional environment Evidence of effective discharge planning skills, including liaising with MDT colleagues and appropriate support agencies Teaching and presentation skills Have experience in supporting and mentoring students Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions. £38,682 to £46,580 a year Per Annum / Pro Rata #J-18808-Ljbffr
