Teaching and Learning We offer engaging, high-quality learning programmes that are collaboratively designed, developed, and evaluated by our leadership team and staff through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). These programmes include a broad Literacy and Numeracy curriculum, specialist programmes in Auslan, Library, Physical Education, STEM, and Visual Arts, and a strong emphasis on sustainability, student leadership, and the integration of digital technologies. Inclusion and Support Mentone Primary School supports students with a Disability Inclusion Profile (Tier 3) and provides Tier 2 funding to enable targeted interventions. We promote an inclusive learning environment for all students. Beyond the Classroom Our outdoor education programme (Year 3–6) offers camps and inter-school sporting competitions. The structured student‑leadership programme includes PLAY Leaders, Student Leaders, and four School Captains. Child Safe Standards The school is fully compliant with the Child Safe Standards and is committed to the safety, wellbeing, and inclusion of every child. Selection Criteria SC1 Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the ability to incorporate literacy and numeracy skills, and experience responding to student learning needs. SC2 Experience planning and implementing high-impact teaching strategies and evaluating their impact on student growth. SC3 Experience monitoring & assessing student learning, using data to inform practice and providing feedback to students and parents. SC4 Interpersonal and communication skills; ability to establish collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the broader school community. SC5 Behaviours and attitudes consistent with department values; commitment to professional learning and continuous improvement. Role The classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges. The primary focus is on planning, preparing, and teaching programmes to achieve specific student outcomes, and engaging in critical reflection and inquiry to improve knowledge and skills. Range 2 teachers play a significant role in improving student performance, developing and implementing school policies, mentoring other teachers, supervising student teachers, and using student data to inform instruction. Range 1 teachers develop skills to become effective classroom practitioners, manage classrooms, deliver subject content, and participate in policy development and professional learning. New entrants receive structured support and mentoring. Responsibilities Direct teaching of groups and individual students. Contributing to the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum areas. Undertaking classroom teaching-related and organisational duties as determined by the principal. Participating in parent‑teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps, and excursions. Undertaking other non‑teaching supervisory duties. Who May Apply Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching, and qualified to teach or have demonstrated experience in the specified curriculum area(s). Qualification Requirements Provisional or full registration approved by the Victorian Institute of Teaching. Completion of an Australian postgraduate level initial teaching programme on or after 1 January 2024, demonstrating accreditation as per the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership standards. Graduation from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education programme after 1 July 2016 must include the required literacy and numeracy test (LANTITE).
