Education Assistant – Special Needs role at Department of Education, Western Australia. Applicants from the previous process IPS/SS who were assessed as suitable are not required to reapply. We are establishing a pool of Education Assistant – Special Needs for permanent, fixed‑term, full‑time and part‑time vacancies that may arise during the 2026 school year up to the end of Term 3, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period. Role As a Special Needs Education Assistant you will, under limited supervision and guidance from the Learning Support Team, perform tasks that require discretion and judgement to help students achieve their full potential. You will support an inclusive school environment for students with diverse support needs. Education Assistants are timetabled to support students and classes across a wide range of curriculum areas and departments within the school. Successful applicants should possess well‑developed interpersonal skills, the ability to collaborate with teachers to scaffold the curriculum and provide feedback on Teaching and Learning Adjustments, and a positive, adaptable attitude. Eligibility Australian or New’Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment. Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start. Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start. Additional eligibility and training requirements are outlined in the attached Job Description Form (JDF). A two‑page statement addressing the selection criteria as outlined in the attached JDF, including: Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including interacting with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals. Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including teamwork in evaluating educational programs. Demonstrated good organisational skills that assist in delivering and developing effective education programs. Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, where required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs. Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents. Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well‑being of students.
