About the role The Kitchen and Laundry Assistant, also known as the General Services Officer, is responsible for safe, effective and efficient food service that enhances the quality of life of residents and providing laundry services that contribute to a safe, clean, home‑like living environment for residents and staff. Duties Prepare and serve meals in a timely, friendly, and efficient manner, ensuring high standards of food presentation and service. Follow food safety and infection control procedures in the storage, preparation, and delivery of all meals. Cater to residents’ dietary, cultural, and religious requirements Maintain kitchen cleanliness and hygiene , including cleaning duties, safe handling of equipment, and proper waste disposal. Provide flexible food service , ensuring residents have access to food outside regular mealtimes when needed. Perform laundry services in accordance with established procedures, ensuring proper cleaning, drying, and handling of residents’ clothing and linen. Ensure safe use and storage of chemicals and equipment Interact respectfully and compassionately with residents Key Requirements Experience in laundry service provision and food service within aged care or similar settings. Strong customer service and communication skills. Fluency in English language. Knowledge of chemical handling, food safety, and Workplace Health & Safety practices. Food Handling Certificate Level One (or working towards) and relevant food safety training. Understanding of dietary needs of older persons, including cultural and special diet requirements. Good organisational skills with the ability to work efficiently under pressure. Commitment to quality service, continuous improvement, and professional development. Knowledge of modified fluids and special diets. Experience working with residents living with dementia or in memory support units.
