Lead Specialist, DevOps Optus is an Australian telecommunications company, delivering more than 11 million services to our customers every day across mobile, broadband and digital solutions. The Lead Specialist, DevOps is a key technical leadership role within Optus’ Group IT Data Office, responsible for advancing and stabilising cloud platforms across AWS and GCP. This role drives best practices in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and SaaS delivery, while supporting a wide range of stakeholders including Data Engineering, Analytics, Product, and Business teams. The position also plays a strategic role in platform design, governance, and resilience, ensuring scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud solutions. Your day to day will consist of Lead the enhancement and maintenance of IaC, PaaS, and SaaS frameworks across multi‑cloud environments. Provide mentoring and technical guidance to DevOps engineers on cloud‑native services and automation. Collaborate with product and engineering teams to translate business goals into technical solutions aligned with quarterly OKRs. Design and manage cloud infrastructure, ensuring compliance with security and engineering standards. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automate deployments across AWS and GCP. Partner with stakeholders to deliver resilient, scalable cloud platforms and support disaster recovery planning. What makes you perfect for the role? 8–12 years of hands‑on experience in DevOps, cloud infrastructure, and platform engineering across AWS and GCP. Deep expertise in IaC tools like Terraform and CloudFormation, and strong knowledge of Kubernetes (EKS/GKE). Proven ability to optimise cloud platforms for cost, performance, and scalability, including FinOps practices. Strong background in identity and access management, observability tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Stackdriver), and CI/CD automation. Experience integrating security and compliance controls across cloud environments. Skilled in leading cross‑functional teams and managing complex, distributed systems. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
