$130,000 per year+ super (Pro-Rata'd to part time) Join a mission-driven team shaping the future of governance in Victorian independent schools. Independent Schools Victoria (ISV) is seeking an engaging and knowledgeable Governance Trainer to empower school boards and senior leaders with the skills, tools, and confidence they need to excel in their governance responsibilities. This part-time role (3–4 days per week) is offered as a 2-year contract , with the potential to increase to full-time in the second year as the program continues to grow. Job Overview The Governance Trainer will deliver high-quality governance education sessions to members of the organisation, primarily school board directors and senior leaders within the Victorian independent schools sector. This role ensures that members are equipped with practical governance knowledge, tools, and frameworks to support strategic decision-making and compliance with regulatory requirements. The role of Governance Trainer at Independent Schools Victoria (ISV) focuses on supporting school boards in enhancing governance practices. This includes providing professional advice on governance issues and conducting accredited governance training through workshops, courses, conferences, and online modules. Major responsibilities Program Delivery: Facilitate governance workshops, webinars, and masterclasses tailored for a range of school personnel ensuring sessions are engaging, interactive, and practical. Curriculum Adaptation: Work with the wider ISV teams to tailor existing governance frameworks to the specific needs of the member-schools & independent schools sector. Participant Support: Provide guidance and advice to board members and school leaders, answering governance queries and sharing best practice examples. Content Development: case studies, training materials, and resources reflecting sector-specific governance challenges. Continuous improvement and adaptation, based on feedback and changing needs of the sector: Review and assess suitability of material by benchmarking against best practice Gather feedback from participants to continually improve session content and delivery methods. Stakeholder Engagement: Regular collaboration with member schools, executive teams, and board chairs to understand governance priorities and ensure programs are relevant and impactful. Key skills, attributes and qualifications Tertiary Education / Professional Governance Membership/ Business Qualifications (e.g., MBA) Relevant tertiary qualification in business, law, public administration, organisational development, or related field. Ability to apply academic knowledge to practical governance and training contexts. Membership or eligibility for recognised governance bodies such as the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) or Governance Institute of Australia. Completion of accredited governance programs (e.g., AICD Company Directors Course). Postgraduate business qualifications such as an MBA, demonstrating strong capability in strategy, leadership, and organisational performance. Experience delivering governance training, workshops, and capability-building programs. Demonstrated ability to advise boards and executives on governance best practice, compliance, and organisational improvement. Governance Workshop Design & Facilitation- Expertise in developing and delivering engaging governance workshops, webinars, and masterclasses tailored to independent school boards. Sector-Specific Governance Adaptation- Ability to tailor governance frameworks and educational content to the unique needs of the independent school sector. Advisory & Relationship Management- Strong interpersonal skills to guide board members and school leaders, and maintain productive relationships with member schools, executives, and board chairs. Training Resource Development- Experience creating high-quality training materials, case studies, and resources that address governance challenges specific to independent schools. Program Evaluation & Continuous Improvement- Competence in collecting and analysing participant feedback to refine program content and improve delivery effectiveness. Strategic Alignment- Ability to align governance programs with organisational goals and sector trends to ensure long-term relevance. Public Speaking & Facilitation- Confident and engaging presenter skilled in leading discussions and delivering content to diverse leadership and board audiences Commercial Accumen- Demonstrated commercial acumen with the ability to align program delivery to organisational priorities and drive value-led outcomes. Experience in independent schools or education governance. Bachelor of Education or equivalent education. Board or senior leadership experience. Knowledge of Victorian education regulations.
