About the Role The Senior Engineer – Substations will be responsible for defining and implementing robust and cost‑effective engineering strategies and plans for substation and connection assets. This role supports the development and execution of Iberdrola’s renewable energy portfolio, focusing on onshore wind, photovoltaic systems, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Key responsibilities Leading the design, specification, and development of basic and detailed engineering of high‑voltage substations. Coordinating with cross‑functional teams, including project managers, civil engineers, contractors, and consultants. Leading the technical review and approval process for project documentation, addressing technical issues, and ensuring high‑quality deliverables. Ensuring all designs and implementations comply with industry standards, regulations, and safety guidelines. Preparing documentation and reports for internal review and approval. Assisting the HS&E Manager in developing electrical safety requirements for contracts. Developing specifications and contractual documents, including procurement and construction contracts and connection agreements. Preparing, analysing, and completing risk assessments. Fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the engineering team. Communicating technical findings, design changes, and project updates effectively to stakeholders. About You Substantial experience in electrical generation assets or transmission or distribution‑related business. Previous renewables experience is highly regarded. Extensive experience in reviewing and approving technical documentation for large‑scale renewable energy projects. Strong knowledge of electrical design principles, power systems, and renewable energy technologies. Strong knowledge of primary and secondary electrical equipment and familiarity with renewable energy technologies and grid integration challenges. Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and technical decision‑making skills. Proficiency in using engineering software and tools.
