Earn while you learn and kick‑start your career with Lake Mac Council About the Job These apprenticeships, which range can range in duration depending on study, offer a valuable opportunity to develop technical knowledge, hands‑on experience, and practical skills in maintaining and repairing Lake Macquarie City Council’s fleet of vehicles, plant, and equipment. Training will be delivered both on‑the‑job and through the registered training organisation. As an Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, you’ll be supported to develop the skills required to successfully complete your training. You’ll work collaboratively with the team to carry out maintenance and repairs in the workshop and on‑site, contributing to the safe and efficient operation of Council’s fleet. You will be guided and supported to: Deliver high‑quality customer service to internal and external stakeholders. Comply with the responsibilities of a ‘worker’ under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Council’s WHS Management System. Attend all required internal and external training sessions and demonstrate a strong commitment to learning the trade. Maintain a clean and organised work environment. Carry out additional duties as directed by your Supervisor or Coordinator, aligned with your skills and training. The position is located at Lake Macquarie City Councils Works Depot. You will be rostered to work Monday to Friday, and occasionally on weekends with notice. Read the position statement to learn more. Candidates who have completed a Certificate III Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology qualification or higher may not be eligible to apply. What We Offer Receive a wage whilst studying towards a qualification starting from $611.50 to $841.02 per week plus 12 per cent superannuation Payment of all course fees Paid time to study and attend compulsory classes Adverse Working Conditions Allowance per hour $0.52 Weekly Tool Allowance of $39.40 Yearly pay reviews and increases based on performance. 38‑hour working week with nine‑day fortnight Four weeks paid annual leave Be mentored and work closely with a team of qualified tradespeople in a supportive, empowering, innovative and collaborative work environment. About You This role could be great for you if you: Have satisfactory Year 10 Record of School Achievement including the completion of mandatory Mathematics and English subjects, or Higher School Certificate (or equivalent) with satisfactory results in Mathematics and English. Are able to satisfy basic manual handling and physical requirements of the role and a willingness to work in an indoor (workshop) and outdoor (on‑site) environment. Demonstrate a genuine interest in pursuing a trade in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology. Good communication and customer service skills. Ability to work in a team. Commitment to completing all training course requirements. Current Provisional Class C drivers' licence or above.
