Overview Temporary, full-time (up to 12 months). Lake Mac Council is seeking an experienced Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to join our Workshop team for an immediate start. This role involves maintenance of Council's plant and fleet assets, including scheduled and unplanned servicing, repairs and modifications, as well as RMS registration and compliance inspections. A key focus is delivering high levels of customer service while emphasising safety, quality assurance and integrity. Diagnostics will be performed using the latest tools as part of a dedicated and skilled automotive team. This exciting role will be based at our Boolaroo NSW depot workshop, with potential travel across multiple sites. Afternoon Shift (12:00pm–8:45pm) rosters are available. Responsibilities Ensure plant and fleet servicing, repairs, modifications, RMS registration and safety inspections are completed in accordance with NSW statutory requirements, National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) standards and Council processes. Carry out automotive air conditioning service and repairs. Support and supervise apprentices by demonstrating high-quality work, safe work practices and fault diagnostics. Minimise unplanned maintenance by reporting faults/defects and suggesting procedural or methodological improvements. Carry out risk assessments for all work performed and contribute to the development of safe work method statements. Qualifications Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical trade qualification and automotive air conditioning experience or related qualifications. Experience servicing and repairing heavy and light vehicles and plant equipment; previous similar roles are advantageous. Current HR driver’s licence is essential. RMS unrestricted vehicle examiner’s certificate or willingness to obtain it. Understanding of computer maintenance management systems (CMMS). TAFE or industry post-trade qualifications in hydraulic systems, electronic controls, braking systems and/or welding are desirable. Team player with a positive can-do attitude. Perks Competitive salary from $74,503 to $86,583 per annum plus 12 per cent superannuation. Tool allowance $38.00 per week. Travel to work allowance up to $16.55 per week. Adverse working conditions allowance $18.62 per week. Enterprise Agreement pay increases apply. Salary is set in line with skills and experience with annual reviews to support movement within the range. 35-hour working week with the option to distribute hours across 4 days per week as part of a flexible work trial. 15 days personal leave and 17.5% leave loading.
