Where you'll be working Macquarie Hospital is a 195-bed unit which comprises 9 separate units, 8 of which are medium to long stay. Hospital Acute and Mental Health Rehabilitation units are supported by a diverse range of Rehabilitation Programs providing a comprehensive range of options to complement and enhance the person-centred programs offered in specialised rehabilitation units. Staff work in multidisciplinary teams providing evidence based, best practice clinical care with the positive expectation and commitment that where possible consumers will move to less restrictive environments along their pathway to individual recovery. Purpose of the Position The primary purpose of the position is for the clinical management and leadership of the Acute stream which is located in the Parkview Unit. The Parkview Unit is a 14 bed high dependency unit critical to the consumer flow of the NSLHD. The aim of the unit is to care for and treat people in the acute phases of their illness and return consumers as quickly as possible to the community. This includes consumer assessment and management including the ongoing clinical review of all consumers admitted. Ensuring regular medical entries into electronic medical records (eMR). Construct suitable diagnostic formulations and management plans in consultation with the registrar and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. Participation in the on-call roster as directed by the Clinical Director, human resources management, financial management and consideration of the hospital budget when prescribing and ordering tests/treatments. Show capacity for warmth, empathy and sensitivity whilst interacting with consumers. The position will provide clinical management and treatment of consumers under your care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) facility or service. This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC). Provision of clinical consultation services within NSLHD and contribution to the teaching and training of medical officers, students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities. Selection Criteria MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the FRANZCP or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months may be considered. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them. Experience in treating serious mental illness and working within a team to promote rehabilitation and recovery with a strong interest in Acute Psychiatry Demonstrated capacity to provide effective clinical leadership within multidisciplinary teams. Communication skills of a high order, including those of negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution. Proven high performance as an experienced clinician and willingness to participate in an on-call roster and provide leadership and support to junior medical staff and participate in regular doctors' meetings. Sound knowledge of the Mental Health Act 2007 and its application and commitment to State, National and Local Mental Health policy. NSW Drivers Licence and the ability to drive.
