Employment Type : Permanent Part-Time or Full-Time available Position Classification : Staff Specialist Hours Per Week : Up to 40 Requisition ID : REQ Applications are via eCredential What you’ll be doing The Psychological Medicine department at Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick (SCH) is seeking a permanent part‑time or full‑time Staff Specialist (Up to 1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week). The successful candidate will provide Child and Adolescent Psychiatry specialist services to the Department of Psychological Medicine at SCH with on‑call privileges at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead (CHW). You will work within the Consultation‑Liaison (CL) team, statewide quaternary services, and multiple liaison clinics, with opportunities for mentorship of early career psychiatrists. You will be encouraged and supported to engage in research and leverage partnerships through Kids Mental Health Research, including UNSW Sydney, The Black Dog Institute, and Neuroscience Research Australia. Clinical Responsibilities Provide direct patient care, supervising junior medical staff, and delivering child psychiatric consultation to non‑medical teams. Provide telepsychiatry consultation to rural health services (6 hours per week for full‑time psychiatrists, with up to 6 days of rural visits per year). Admit and manage inpatients in Hall Ward, Saunders Unit, and other SCHN wards. Participate in review and improvement activities, training and education of staff, and annual performance reviews in line with the Staff Specialist (State) Award. Abide by the hospital code of conduct and maintain a child‑safe culture. Clinical Teams Intellectual Disability/Developmental Disability Mental Health Team Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Unit Consultation‑Liaison Team Psychosomatic Disorders and Gender Dysphoria Team Eating Disorders Team Qualifications & Eligibility Eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Psychiatrist and/or overseas trained specialist pathways. Trainees expected to complete Fellowship of the RANZCP within the next 6 months are eligible. Demonstrated recent clinical experience in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. Fellowship of the RANZCP and/or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Membership of the Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, RANZCP, or equivalent. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership. Effective clinical communication via information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution. Commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement. Availability to participate in an on‑call roster and to respond on site as required. Experience with a wide range of treatment methods, including psychotherapeutic approaches and psychotropic medications. Adaptability to the needs of the child, their family, and the changing requirements of the position.
