The role is based in the Psychological Medicine department at Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick (SCH). The successful candidate will provide specialist services to the department and have on‑call privileges at the Children's Hospital at Westmead (CHW). Applicants must be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Psychiatrist or meet overseas trained specialist pathways. Trainees expecting to complete their Fellowship of the RANZCP within the next 6 months are eligible to apply. Responsibilities Provide direct child and adolescent psychiatric care, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions. Supervise junior medical staff and deliver child psychiatric consultation to non‑medical team members. Support the clinical teams – Intellectual Disability/Developmental Disability Mental Health, Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Unit, Consultation‑Liaison, Psychosomatic Disorders and Gender Dysphoria, Eating Disorders – according to service needs. Deliver a telepsychiatry consultation service to a rural health service, providing up to six hours per week of remote consultations and one to two rural visits per year. Manage admission and inpatient care for children in Hall Ward, Saunders Unit and other SCHN wards, ensuring safe, evidence‑based treatment. Contribute to clinical teaching, training, research, quality improvement and review activities as part of a multidisciplinary team. Participate in an on‑call roster and respond to on‑site requests within a reasonable time frame. Abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews under the Staff Specialist (State) Award. Qualifications Specialist Psychiatrist registration with the Medical Board of Australia or equivalent overseas pathway; Fellowship of the RANZCP or equivalent recognition. Demonstrated recent clinical experience in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry; membership of the Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, RANZCP or equivalent. Evidence of effective clinical communication, use of information technology and written, verbal, interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution. Demonstrated leadership within a multidisciplinary team and commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement. Ability to work effectively and adapt to the needs of children, families and evolving service demands. Experience with a range of psychotherapeutic approaches and psychotropic medication management. Availability to participate in an on‑call roster and respond on site as required. Other Requirements Applicants must hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) issued by the Office of the Children’s Guardian.
