Physiotherapist

Role We provide physiotherapy services to children and adolescents in conjunction with the broader allied health team and classroom staff. Our Allied Health team includes Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Nurses, Wellbeing Support Officer, Mental Health Practitioner and Allied Health Assistants. Physiotherapy intervention in the school setting addresses the child’s functional needs in accessing all areas of the school curriculum. Physiotherapy interventions enable our students to travel throughout the school environment; participate in classroom activities; maintain and change positions in the classroom; as well as manage stairs, bathrooms, buses and the playground. We support teachers to provide an inclusive physical education, bike education, fitness, gross motor and play programs. We advise classroom staff regarding inclusion of students to maximise their participation in classroom activities, adapt activities to suit students’ needs and development levels. This includes, but is not limited to, providing direct service and consultancy to school staff in developing and implementing appropriate intervention strategies that optimise student function. A significant part of our role as school‑based therapists is liaising and communicating with medical staff and community‑based allied health professionals. University Hospital Geelong run a satellite orthopaedic clinic at school. The orthopaedic team comprises of Orthopaedic surgeon, Orthotist and Orthopaedic Coordinator and physiotherapists. Local paediatricians see our students onsite Consultation with community‑based physiotherapists and equipment technicians We also support our students to participate in community access programs such as shopping, travel programs, Sailability, play, visiting petting zoos / farms, GPAC, Bounce etc. We also assist students to safely access their work experience programmes and whole school excursions Cinema, Zoo, Narana Aboriginal Cultural Centre, Bowling etc. Responsibilities Provision of physiotherapy service consistent with your skill level and consultation with a more senior clinician when indicated Regularly seek and participate in feedback and mentoring sessions with Senior Physiotherapists Maintain accurate documentation Prioritise your own caseload within a whole‑school perspective Provide recommendations on student safety Supervise undergraduate university students Use appropriate language and communication methods with students, families and colleagues Participate in performance reviews with senior staff Access a professional development fund to continue your learning journey Uphold the Physiotherapy Board of Australia code of conduct Adhere to the Physiotherapy Board of Australia Continuing Professional Development and recency of practice guidelines Qualifications and Experience Essential Hold a Physiotherapy degree qualification from an accredited course or university Current AHPRA registration Eligibility for membership with the Australian Physiotherapy Association Satisfaction of the Physiotherapy Board of Australia Continuing Professional Development and Recency of Practice Guidelines Uphold the Physiotherapy Board of Australia Code of Conduct Desirable Previous experience or interest in paediatric physiotherapy Who May Apply Enthusiastic individuals with the aptitude and motivation to fulfil the specific requirements of the position.
