EL 1 - Instrument Flight Procedure Chief Designer Australian Department of Defence – South Melbourne VIC 1d ago , from Australian Department of Defence $120,303 - $135,701 + up to 15.4% Superannuation The Role The Instrument Flight Procedure (IFP) Chief Designer leads the development, documentation, and maintenance of IFP standards. Ensuring compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Australian Defence Force (ADF), and allied standards and recommended practices utilised within the Australian Defence context. This role demands technical authority in the design and validation of instrument flight procedures, using geospatial and aeronautical data systems. The IFP Chief Designer supports the unit’s quality assurance processes, manages risk assessments for obstacle clearance and terrain analysis, and ensures accuracy and integrity of the datasets supporting Defence aviation operations. Additionally, the IFP Chief Designer will provide expert guidance to designers, facilitate training programs to maintain competency in procedure design tools and methodologies, and contribute to capability development initiatives that enhance ADF mission planning and execution in complex and contested environments. The IFP Chief Designer operates independently and reports directly to the Commanding Officer of the Aeronautical Information Service – Air Force (AIS-AF). The IFP Chief Designer supports the Production Manager and the Terminal Procedures Team Leader. About our Team Aeronautical Information Service – Air Force (AIS-AF) is an Air Force unit responsible for the provision of timely, accurate and relevant Aeronautical Information Publications (AIP) that supports ADF operations globally. AIS-AF is responsible for the production of both paper and digital AIP with a specific focus on Australia, Asia and the Indo-Pacific region. The majority of work is conducted in an office environment at Victoria Barracks - Melbourne utilising proprietary design tools, geospatial databases, desktop publishing software and standard Microsoft applications.
