Temporary Up to 0.6FTE Staff Specialist Department of Haematology Westmead Hospital To apply for this position, please complete an online application by clicking on the link below: Applications must be received by 5pm on the advertising closing date. Applications Close 23 December 2025 Successful applicants will be responsible for the provision of Clinical Haematology services including consultative services, patient care as appropriate to the diagnosis and treatment of general haematology patients and medical research. This appointment is for the Temporary period of 2 March 2026 to 7 June 2026. Appointees may be required to participate in other on call rosters at nominated facilities within Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) as determined by clinical operations. Responsible directly to the Department Head Clinical Haematology and the Network Director, WSLHD Cancer Network for the provision of Clinical Haematology services including medical research and patient care as appropriate to the diagnosis and treatment of haematology patients. The role includes undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and supervision. The Senior Medical Practitioner is also responsible for the maintenance of quality with all aspects of their service delivery and the efficient use of resources within Western Sydney Local Health District. The WSLHD Cancer Network comprises clinical specialties in medical oncology, radiation oncology, haematology, palliative care, psycho‑oncology, familial cancer and translational oncology. Surgical oncology, gynae‑oncology and a range of tumour groups in form of multi‑disciplinary teams are an integral part of the Network. The service is conducted by networking between: two comprehensive cancer centres (at Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals) two smaller facilities (Mount Druitt, St Joseph’s) the private sector The Clinical Haematology Services provides services to outpatients and admitted patients for any haematological disorder including leukaemia and lymphoma. The Haematology service in Western Sydney is committed to supporting a strong teaching, research and learning environment. The department has a diverse range of clinical and research interests and expertise, with a reputation in leukaemia research, bone marrow transplantation, stem cell therapies, molecular genetics, haemostasis and thrombosis and transfusion medicine. The hospital is affiliated with the Westmead Institute for Medical Research, the University of Sydney, and is a major hub for the western clinical school, Western Sydney University and Notre Dame University. Essential Requirements for Appointment Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable) Sound clinical knowledge in Haematology, Blood transplant and Cell therapies demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position 0.2 FTE General haematology scope of practice including cover of General haematology clinic on Tuesday afternoons and contribution to Gen Haem on call and consults rosters, attendance of Haematology MDT Wed morning and Leuk/Lymphoma MDTs Tuesday morning Up to 0.6 FTE Blood Transplant and Cell Therapies scope of practice including attendance at BTCT planning meeting on Monday, Acute BMT clinic on Mondays, BMT clinic Thurs afternoon, CAR T/general clinic Thurs morning, participation in BTCT on call rosters Selection Criteria Qualifications and credentials required for core scope of practice in the specialty Evidence of additional qualifications, skills and/or experience required for specific scope of practice for the specialty Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical /Dental Practitioner including: Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi‑disciplinary health care team Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships Maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system Demonstrated aptitude for clinical leadership which is evidenced by: Systems thinking and risk‑taking aptitude commitment to self‑care and personal development Capacity to maintain personal integrity, tolerate stress and demonstrate resilience Commitment to building relationships, leading, and developing others Results and outcome focused Commitment to good governance, achieving results and managing risks Demonstrated commitment to Education, Training and Research, as applicable to the position Working with Children Check Applicants must provide evidence of a Working with Children Check issued by the Office of Communities Commission for Children and Young People.
