Position Overview Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia – Melbourne VIC Purpose of the position The Associate supports a Judge in the day‑to‑day management of Chambers and Court, providing high‑level administrative support and supervising the Deputy Associate. Key Duties Day‑to‑day running of chambers, responding to enquiries. Supervise the work of the Deputy Associate. Assist the Judge to manage the docket by preparing and managing matters awaiting hearing. Ensure the court’s case management system is up‑to‑date and assist the Judge in preparing orders and typing judgments. Provide research assistance to the Judge. Assist with preparation of matters for both the Court and the Judge, including judgment writing and editing in line with the Court’s publication standards. Maintain court‑related relationships with external stakeholders. Contribute to organisational forums working for better working practices. Other duties as required. Eligibility and Requirements Completed or near‑completed law qualification with a strong academic record (supported by academic transcript). Ability to travel on circuits as required. Australian citizenship required. Security and character clearance required. Selection Criteria Demonstrated legal research, analysis, and drafting skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Organisational and problem‑solving skills, managing priorities under pressure. Interpersonal skills, tact, discretion, initiative, and effective communication with judiciary, legal profession, public, and court staff. Initiative to work autonomously and collaboratively, maintaining professional relationships and handling sensitive information. Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Office, electronic legal resources, and court case‑management systems. Adaptability to changing situations and priorities. High standard of ethical behaviour.
