Senior Coordinator – Disaster Management, Preparedness & Response Make a real difference in disaster preparedness across Western Queensland At Western Queensland PHN (WQPHN), we work to strengthen primary health care across one of Australia’s largest and most remote regions. In partnership with health providers and community organisations, we improve access to care, support workforce development, and deliver the right services at the right time to meet the changing needs of Western Queensland communities. We’re passionate about helping communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural disasters and major events — ensuring continuity of care and resilience when it matters most. About the Role We’re seeking a proactive and collaborative Senior Coordinator, Disaster Management to lead WQPHN’s disaster preparedness, response, and recovery coordination across Western Queensland. This full-time role is offered on an initial 12-month contract, with the possibility of extension, and flexible work arrangements are available. Regional travel will be required to support disaster preparedness and response activities. Key Responsibilities Developing, embedding, and testing disaster preparedness and business continuity plans for providers and WQPHN. Coordinating training, education, and simulation exercises to strengthen readiness and response capability. Establishing and maintaining strong partnerships with health providers, emergency services, Local Disaster Management Groups, and community organisations. Supporting disaster operations and recovery coordination, including provider surge support, incident management, situation reporting, and after‑action reviews. Leading disaster‑related projects and managing contracts or service agreements as required. Monitoring and reporting on preparedness initiatives, tracking outcomes, and driving continuous improvement and knowledge sharing. Contributing to organisational planning to embed preparedness across WQPHN programs and activities. About You Qualifications and/or experience in disaster management, emergency response, or a related health or community field. Strong knowledge of disaster preparedness principles and frameworks. Proven ability to coordinate multisectoral partnerships and projects. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Strong organisation and problem‑solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities. A current driver’s licence and willingness to travel across the Western Queensland region.
