As the Emergency & Disaster Management Lead, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening the hospital’s preparedness, response, and resilience capabilities. Working collaboratively with internal emergency providers and external partners, you will maintain, develop, and continuously enhance protocols and procedures to ensure the hospital is always ready to manage any emergency efficiently and effectively. This important role directly contributes to the safety, continuity, and operational readiness of the organisation. What You Will Bring You will be an experienced emergency and disaster management professional who thrives in complex environments and brings strong leadership capability. You have deep knowledge of legislative and Australian Standards requirements relevant to hospitals, paired with the confidence to guide teams through preparedness, response, and recovery activities. Critically, you bring the ability to think strategically, analyse incidents and risks, produce high‑quality reporting, and influence decision‑making. Your advanced communication and interpersonal skills allow you to build strong relationships, deliver training, and support staff at all levels. Key Accountabilities Support the management of the hospital’s Disaster Management portfolio, ensuring preparedness across all emergency scenarios in line with Australian Standard 4083–1997. Maintain and update policies and procedures for emergency preparedness, incident reporting and response. Investigate significant emergency incidents, facilitating operational debrief sessions and implementing recommendations. Develop and oversee annual training and exercise programs for hospital departments and emergency response teams. Ensure the hospital meets all accreditation requirements relating to emergency and disaster management. Provide high‑quality reports, insights and recommendations to the Disaster Management Group and the Hospital Executive Committee. Support the development and delivery of mandatory emergency procedures training, evacuation drills, and Emergency Response Team (ERT) training. Coordinate the update and maintain the hospital’s Business Continuity, Chemical/Biological/Radiological (CBR) and Code Yellow/Brown Response Plans, ensuring regular reviews, updates and exercises. Assist senior staff during declared emergencies, including activation of the Emergency Coordination Centre, coordination support, and reporting to internal and state authorities. Lead or contribute to key committees such as the Disaster Management Group, Pandemic Influenza Working Party, Code Black Steering Committee and others. Undertake research, quality improvement activities, and special projects as required by the Hospital Executive. Provide strong leadership in safety by promoting compliance, reviewing incidents, participating in inspections, supporting training attendance, and ensuring full adherence to RHC safety policies and legislative requirements. Desirable Post‑graduate qualification (or significant progress toward one) in a relevant specialty area. Strong computer literacy and proficiency with office productivity applications. Our 732‑bed hospital offers a wide range of inpatient and day services, including advanced surgical, cardiac, respiratory, maternity, orthopaedic, rehabilitation, and acute aged care. Joondalup Health Campus comprises co‑located public and private hospitals, and together is one of Western Australia’s hospitals. The public hospital is operated under a long‑term contract with the Western Australian government to treat public patients. We provide access to extensive services such as a comprehensive Emergency Department, 12 operating theatres, a cardiac catheter laboratory, intensive care units, a 16‑cot Neonatal Unit, and more.
