Disaster Management Senior Coordinator

Help strengthen emergency preparedness and resilience across Western Queensland Western Queensland PHN (WQPHN) works to strengthen primary health care across one of Australia’s largest and most remote regions. We partner with health providers, emergency services, and community organisations to ensure continuity of care and support community resilience during disasters and major events. We’re seeking a skilled and proactive coordinator with experience in emergency management, disaster response, or community resilience — including those from SES, Rural Fire, QFES, Police, or local government — to lead WQPHN’s disaster preparedness, response, and recovery activities across Western Queensland. This is a strategic, coordination‑focused role that builds readiness across multiple agencies and the health system. About the Role In this role, you will: Lead the development, implementation, and testing of disaster preparedness, emergency management, and business continuity plans for health providers and WQPHN. Coordinate training, exercises, and simulation activities to strengthen readiness, incident management, and response capability. Establish and maintain multi‑agency partnerships with health providers, Local Disaster Management Groups (LDMGs), emergency services, and community organisations. Support emergency response and recovery operations , including surge support, situation reporting, and after‑action reviews. Lead resilience‑building projects and manage contracts or service agreements as required. Monitor, report, and continuously improve preparedness initiatives and knowledge sharing. Contribute to organisational planning to embed emergency preparedness and risk management across all WQPHN programs. This is a full‑time, 12‑month contract with the possibility of extension. Flexible work arrangements are available. The role is based in Western Queensland (e.g. Longreach, Mount Isa, Charleville, Winton, Roma), with regional travel required . Applicants from elsewhere in Queensland are welcome if willing to relocate. About You You’ll thrive in this role if you’re passionate about community resilience and enjoy working collaboratively in complex, fast‑paced environments. You’ll bring: Experience in emergency management, disaster response, or community resilience, ideally within SES, Rural Fire, QFES, Police, or local government. Knowledge of Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements (QDMA), Local Disaster Management Groups (LDMGs), or similar frameworks. Ability to coordinate multi‑agency planning and response efforts and engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Strong organisational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities. Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills. Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel across Western Queensland. Experience in rural and remote communities or with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities is highly regarded.
