Research Officer - Identified, Queensland Health Make a Meaningful Impact in First Nations Cancer Research Join Cancer Alliance Queensland and Metro South Health in a key role supporting the new First Nations Cancer Cohort Study (CanCo). You’ll recruit and guide participants, collect vital data and contribute to a landmark research project improving cancer outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Your new role: This is an identified vacancy with a genuine occupational requirement for the position to be filled by a candidate indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community. Candidates not meeting this criteria will not be considered. As the Research Officer for the First Nations Cancer Cohort Study (CanCo) in Princess Alexandra Hospital, you will play a central role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers. You will coordinate participant recruitment, informed consent, onboarding and follow-up, while ensuring high-quality data collection and ethical research practice. Working closely with teams at The University of Queensland and Cancer Alliance Queensland, you'll help build a long-term population-based cohort that will drive meaningful improvements in cancer care and survivorship. Key Responsibilities Identify, contact and recruit eligible First Nations participants and caregivers, following approved protocols and informed consent processes. Conduct phone-based data collection and maintain high standards of data accuracy and integrity. Manage documentation, scheduling and participant remuneration with strong attention to detail. Support the maintenance and improvement of tracking and data systems. About you: You’re an organised, empathetic and motivated professional who can build trust with participants and work confidently across research, health and community settings. You bring strong communication skills, cultural capability and the ability to manage multiple tasks with accuracy. Skills & Attributes Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (genuine occupational requirement under s25 Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld)). Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support participants with sensitivity and respect. Experience in participant recruitment, data collection or research-related work. Understanding of privacy, confidentiality and ethical considerations in a research or health environment. The aim of the study is to establish a prospective and perpetual population-based cohort of First Nations Peoples diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers (CanCo), from diagnosis and throughout survivorship.
