A respected public sector organisation is seeking a Senior Review Officer to play a pivotal role in the conduct of external review applications under the Right to Information Act. This position offers you the opportunity to apply your legal and analytical skills in a supportive environment that values fairness, impartiality, and collaboration. You will be empowered to make a meaningful impact by ensuring transparency and accountability in information access, while benefiting from flexible working arrangements designed to support your work-life balance. If you are passionate about upholding the principles of open government and enjoy engaging with diverse stakeholders, this is an exceptional opportunity to further your career within a knowledgeable and dependable team. Enjoy flexible working opportunities that support your personal commitments and wellbeing, including options for hybrid work and consideration for individual circumstances. Work alongside experienced professionals who value knowledge sharing, professional development, and a collaborative approach to resolving complex matters. What you'll do: As a Senior Review Officer, you will be entrusted with managing complex external review applications under the Right to Information Act from start to finish. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve assessing the merits of each application with impartiality, engaging thoughtfully with all parties involved to seek early resolutions where possible, and drafting well-reasoned statutory decisions that uphold legislative standards. You will draw upon your legal acumen to conduct detailed research on relevant laws and policies while communicating clearly with applicants and agencies alike. Success in this role requires you to manage competing priorities effectively, demonstrate empathy during challenging interactions, and contribute actively to a culture of collaboration and continuous learning. Your efforts will help ensure that information access decisions are fair, transparent, and consistent with best practice. Conduct thorough and impartial merits assessments of assigned external review applications made under the Right to Information Act, ensuring all relevant facts and legislative requirements are considered. Engage collaboratively with parties involved in the review process to identify opportunities for early resolution and settlement of reviews, fostering positive relationships and efficient outcomes. Draft high-quality statutory decisions and clear reasons for those decisions, supporting senior officers delegated to make formal determinations. Undertake comprehensive legal and policy research to inform the assessment, conduct, and settling of external reviews, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legislative frameworks. Communicate effectively with applicants, agencies, and other stakeholders throughout the review process, providing clear explanations of procedures and outcomes. Manage challenging interactions with sensitivity and professionalism, demonstrating resilience when exposed to sensitive or distressing material. Prioritise workloads efficiently to meet deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality across all aspects of case management. Utilise document management systems such as Microsoft Office and SharePoint to maintain accurate records and ensure information security. Contribute positively to team discussions, knowledge sharing initiatives, and continuous improvement activities within the office environment. What you bring: Your proven background in regulatory or legal environments equips you with the expertise needed for success as a Senior Review Officer. You bring not only technical knowledge but also finely tuned interpersonal skills that enable you to communicate sensitively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Your ability to interpret legislation accurately ensures that every decision is grounded in sound reasoning. Experience handling sensitive material has developed your resilience while maintaining professionalism during difficult conversations. You thrive in settings where teamwork is valued; sharing insights generously with colleagues comes naturally. Your commitment to fairness drives you to deliver high-quality outcomes even when managing multiple priorities simultaneously. Familiarity with digital tools supports your efficiency in maintaining accurate records throughout each stage of the review process. Demonstrated proficiency in critical thinking and analytical skills applied within a legal or regulatory context. Proven experience interpreting and applying legislation—ideally relating to information access or similar regulatory frameworks—in a public sector setting at AO6 or AO7 level (or equivalent). Exceptional attention to detail when reviewing complex documents or drafting statutory decisions. Experience preparing clear written reasons for decisions that are accessible to both laypersons and professionals. Highly effective oral communication skills for engaging constructively with applicants, agencies, colleagues, and other stakeholders. Demonstrated mediation skills for resolving complex or contested matters through negotiation or facilitated discussion. Excellent stakeholder engagement abilities coupled with strong customer service orientation—even in challenging situations. Sound organisational skills including effective prioritisation of tasks, time management under pressure, planning ahead for deadlines, and problem‑solving unexpected issues as they arise. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office suite as well as SharePoint or similar document management systems for secure record‑keeping. What sets this company apart: This organisation stands out as a champion of open government principles—dedicated to promoting transparency, accountability, and equitable access to information for all members of the community.
