Aboriginal AOD Case Manager

About the role Join our team as a First Nations Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Case Manager and play a vital role in improving health and wellbeing for individuals, families, and communities. The role will work in close collaboration with Aboriginal Community Housing Limited in Kempsey (ACHL). What you’ll be doing Provide trauma-informed, person-centred care using brief interventions that truly make a difference. Work closely with participants who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, ensuring culturally safe and respectful support. Deliver practical assistance and psychosocial capacity-building strategies to empower people on their recovery journey. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to facilitate group programmes focused on: psychoeducation, harm minimisation, process groups and relapse prevention About the Program The Drug and Alcohol Treatment Programme (DATP) is a stepped‑care model designed to support people aged 12+ at all stages from early intervention to relapse prevention. Our goal is simple yet powerful: better health and social outcomes for those affected by substance misuse. Hours and location The hours are 26 per week over four or five days. This position is based in Kempsey with options to work from an office, home and in the community. A vehicle is available from a central location. The role is funded until 30th June 2026 with potential for extension. Qualifications and checks Diploma or higher qualification in Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), community services, or mental health; OR hold a Certificate IV in one of these fields combined with relevant experience working with First Nations communities. Current driver’s licence, a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Working with Children Check. As this is an identified role, confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage is required. Professional skills and experience Demonstrated experience working with First Nations people in delivery of AOD support and relapse prevention services with a trauma-informed approach. Experience in case management and delivery of mental health and suicide prevention services with a psychosocial capacity building framework. Demonstrated experience working with people with a substance use disorder. Demonstrated experience facilitating groups. Established networks and relationships with a range of referral services across the local community. Demonstrated proficiency using the Microsoft suite, a variety of databases and video conferencing tools.
