Associate Water Quality Scientist, Water Resources – Jacobs Jacobs invites applications for the Associate Water Quality Scientist, Water Resources position. This role is part of the Water Resources team that covers Victoria, NSW, QLD, and New Zealand, offering flexible working arrangements for candidates based anywhere within this area. About the Role As an Associate Water Quality Scientist, you will deliver technically defensible, innovative water quality services to clients such as Melbourne Water and support projects related to the Murray‑Darling Basin Plan and the Victorian Murray Floodplain Restoration Project. Your work will span marine, coastal and freshwater environments, including microbial risk assessments, permitting, water treatment, and integrated water management. Key Responsibilities Conceptualise, lead and deliver complex water quality and risk assessment projects. Write winning proposals, manage project delivery, and ensure outcomes meet time, budget and quality requirements. Provide specialist scientific support and collaborate across technical disciplines within Jacobs. Engage with clients, stakeholders and regulators, and liaise with Jacobs teams locally and globally. Coach and mentor junior team members to build a high‑performing group. Present findings to stakeholders, author technical reports, and maintain quality assurance processes. Qualifications & Technical Skills Bachelor’s degree in Science or equivalent; advanced research or consulting experience in marine/freshwater water quality preferred. Proven ability to deliver defensible input on microbial (human health) risk issues. Strong presentation capabilities across varied forums – workshops, hearings, community forums, conferences. Experience leading or reviewing technical reports and managing field activities. Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and use of standard tools, techniques and equipment. Track record in business development, client relationship building, and securing new opportunities.
